Experience:
Juliet Steel is a Senior Associate in the Research Team at Omera Partners. She works across a broad range of executive search mandates and partners, and is known for her rigour, her instinct for a strong fit, and the trust she builds quickly with senior candidates. Juliet brings genuine care and a calm, considered approach to every assignment, and is valued across the firm as a dependable member of the research team. We sat down with Jules to talk about her role at Omera Partners, how she approaches a search, and what greatness means to her.
What is your role at Omera Partners and what brought you to executive search research?
“I am a Senior Associate in the Research Team at Omera Partners, based in our Sydney office. My work centres on Chief People Officer mandates, alongside searches across the life sciences and water sectors. What I enjoy most is the variety. Moving between different sectors, and partnering with colleagues from across the business, keeps the work fresh and means I am always learning something new. That breadth is what drew me to executive search research, and it is what keeps me engaged in it.”
What does the research process involve, and how do you support the partners and practices you work with?
“I begin every search from scratch, with fresh thinking and a clean slate. Taking the time to listen to what the client needs at the outset is what everything else rests on. From there I build a considered list of companies to map, weighing up the right background, skill set and potential fit for each opportunity. In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, I believe the human conversations matter more than ever. Talking with people about their motivations, strengths, aspirations and appetite for a new opportunity is central to how I work. It is how I care for candidates, get to know them properly, and represent them accurately to our clients.”
What do candidates, clients and colleagues experience when they work with you?
“People who work with me know they will always get open and honest communication, delivered in real time. I place real value on active listening and on keeping everyone properly informed, whether that means giving a candidate a straight account of where a process stands, or keeping partners updated with candid feedback from the market. What people tend to remember is that they always knew where they stood with me.”
What do you most enjoy about working at Omera Partners, and what are you most proud of in your work?
“What Imost enjoy is being part of a collaborative and experienced research team. There is a lot of satisfaction in managing the challenging deadlines, andsometimes the challenging relationships, that come with a demanding search, because that is exactly what makes our processes so thorough and comprehensive. What I am proud of is the consistency of it. Whatever a particular searchthrows at us, we deliver for our clients every time, and being part of a teamthat can be relied on in that way means a great deal to me.”
“Greatness is found in taking the time to listen, gain knowledge and understand the needs of each client, while maintaining meaningful relationships with our enormous and growing network of amazing Australian talent.”
What does life look like outside the office?
“Outside the office I am learning to speak Greek and to play Mahjong, and I am always reading, usually a novel or a biography. I also do my best to stay fit and healthy, while making sure I am having plenty of fun along the way.”
